Museu del Mamut
This museum in an old palace near the corner of the Carrer Montcada and the Passeig del Born opened in 2010 and houses the fossils of the prehistoric creatures of the last Ice Age, in particular the mammoths, recently unearthed in the seaside town of Viladecans, as well as others from in North America and Russia.
Unusually for a museum, visitors are welcome to touch and smell bits of mammoth and woolly rhino. There are reproductions of prehistoric paintings, and examples of mammoth ivory art. In the shop you can buy some genuine mammoth bits and pieces to take home, or perhaps a giant cave bear and musk buffalo skeleton—the perfect gift for that special hard-to-please someone in your life.
