Piazza Goldoni

The Only Square in Florence Named After a Venetian

Piazza Goldoni

This is only square in Florence named after a Venetian, the great comic playwright who made all Italy laugh in the 18th century. The most important building here is the Palazzo Ricasoli, built in the 15th century but bearing the name of one of unified Italy’s first prime ministers, Bettino ‘Iron Baron’ Ricasoli, whose other claim to fame was developing the formula of grapes that go into Chianti.
