All About the Medici

Like their Bourbon cousins in France, the Medici liked to pass the time acquiring new palaces for themselves. In their case, however, the reason was less self-exaltation than simple property speculation; one secret of the Medici’s success was that they always thought several generations ahead. As a result the countryside is littered with their villas, most of them privately owned, although some are partly open to the public.
