Simone del Pollaiolo

Better Known as Cronaca

Palazzo vecchio: the Salone dei Cinquecento

Nephew of Piero and Antonio Pollaiuolo, Simone del Pollaiolo (1457–1508) went to Rome to study the classical buildings and earned his nickname by talking about what he saw in such detail that it seemed like a chronicle.

He was commissioned by Savonarola to build the massive Salone dei Cinquento in the Palazzo Veccho; he also completed the Palazzo Strozzi after the death of Benedetto da Maiano and designed San Salvatore al Monte.
