Quinto di Sesto Fiorentino

Two Etruscan Tombs

Tomba della Montagnola

A 20-minute walk north from Villa di Castello to Quinto takes you to two unusual 7th-century BC Etruscan tombs: La Montagnola, Via Filli Rosselli 95, and La Mula, Via della Mula 2.

Neither has any art, but the chambers under their 26ft artificial hills resemble others elsewhere in the Mediterranean – the domed tholos tombs of Mycenaean Greece, corbelled passages like the navetas of Majorca, and entrances that look like the sacred wells of Sardinia. La Montagnola also has a entrance (dromos) covered with a corbelled roof
