Lorenzo di Credi

Student of Verrocchio

Annunciation, Lorenzo di Credi

Florentine Lorenzo di Credi (1439–1537), or Lorenzo Sciarpelloni, was along with Leonardo da Vinci a student of Andrea del Verrocchio. He was always technically perfect if occasionally vacuous, and inherited Verrocchio's studio after his death.

Most of his works have since left Florence or were destroyed by himself, when like Botticelli he became a follower of Savonarola and burned them in the Bonfire of the Vanities. Most of his surviving works are outside Florence but there are several works, including his Annunciation and a Venus that escaped the flames in the Uffizi.
