little birds

Can mean 'little birds' (larks and thrushes, usually), hunted in the north and served with polenta (polenta e osei), which also the name of a classic pastry in Bergamo.

It can also mean veal 'birds' or involtini, such as the Trentino's osei scampai, filled with bacon and sage.
