polpette

rissoles or meatballs

The word polpette comes from 'pulp' and any meat, fish or vegetables combined together and bound, usually with an egg and some flour, is a polpetta. Big ones are polpettone.

One of the more popular dishes is polpette al pomodoro, meatballs in tomato sauce— the base of the classic Italian-American spaghetti and meatballs.
