visciole

sour cherries/cherry wine

These little tart cherries (prunus cerasus) grow around Rome and in San Paolo di Jesi in the Marche. Mostly they are fermented and added to wine to make vino di visciole or vi di visciola, a dessert wine.

The Festa del Vi de Visciola takes place in San Paolo in mid October.
