crocchette

croquettes

Crochette (or crochets) are little balls or patties of just about anything, bound with egg if necessary and then breaded and fried. The inside can be potato, rice, vegetables, cheese, chicken, fish or whatever. They are served as antipasti, a side dish or just a snack.

Crocchè are the Neapolitan and Sicilian street food version (in Palermo, they're usually called cazzilli), made with mashed potato and egg. They are usually sold alongside panzarotti.

A crocchè di latte is a ball of thick cream done the same way.
