acini di pepe

pasta 'peppercorns'

Acini are tiny pasta specks, usually used in broth or soups with greens, and sometimes in salads. People also tend to call them pastina, as in pastina in brodo, although some say proper pastina are even smaller.

Also known as pepperini.
