buccellato

Sicilian fruitcake

In Sicily, bucellato is a ring-shaped cake made with figs, raisins, candied fruits, nuts, honey and sometimes Marsala wine. It's usually eaten at Christmas, or to celebrate a christening.

There's a simpler version of buccellato that's a speciality of Lucca, in Tuscany: (usually) ring-shaped panettone, with raisins, aniseed and maybe nuts.
