Ramazzotti

bitter herbal digestivo

Italy's oldest commercially sold liqueur, Ramazzotti, made with 33 different herbs and plants, was invented by Ausano Ramazzotti in Milan in 1815; Coca-Cola like, the formula remains a closely guarded secret known by only three people.

Long associated with its birthplace (its popular slogan was Milano da bere— 'Milan in a glass'), the company was bought by France's Pernod-Ricard group in 1985, and today production has moved to Canelli in Piedmont (best known as the capital of Asti Spumante). Much of it is sold in Germany.
