capitone

a lady eel

The female of the European eel, which is twice as big as the male. A traditional Christmas dish in many corners of Italy, stewed, jellied or roasted, or grilled on skewers in summer. Unfortunately today it is on the Greenpeace Red List of endangered marine life. Efforts are being made to raise them commercially.
