addormenta suocere

candied almond, hazelnuts or peanuts

A favourite at fun fairs or other festivals. Their name, literally 'mother-in-law sleeper' is one of several (see latte and lingua di suocera) involving the nemesis of many an Italian wife, who can never clean or cook or iron shirts for her man as well as his mamma once did: the idea, perhaps, is that while la suocera is sucking on the sweet nuts her tongue is sleeping.
