ventagli

elephants' ears

A ventaglio is a fan, but these are puff pastry (pasta sfoglia) rolled, sliced and fried, with sugar or honey and sometimes other ingredients rolled in. The same as the French palmiers or our elephants' ears. Tiny ones are called ventagliette.

There is also a form of pasta with a ruffled edge that vaguely resemble hand fans.
