Giovanni Antonio Fuminani

Painter of a Mighty Big Ceiling

Ceiling of San Pantalon

Venetian Giovanni Antonio Fumiani (1645–1710) is a key figure between Veronese and Tiepolo, notably in the fine art of quadratura ceiling painting. He is best known for his massive trompe l'oeil masterpiece in San Pantalon. But he also did smaller works, including cartoons for the mosaics in St Mark's, the ceiling in the Scuola di San Rocco, and a lunette in San Zaccaria.
