Giovanni Antonio Pellegrini
Decorative Rococo painter
Born in Venice, Giovanni Antonio Pellegrini (1675 – 1741) was a student of Sebastiano Ricci and an important figure in the development of the local rococo style, a style that would be perfected by Giambattista Tiepolo. One of his students was Antonio Visentini.
Pellegrini was married to the sister of Rosabla Carriera, and travelled widely in England (he arrived with the British ambassador to Venice, along with Marco Ricci), France, Germany, Austria and the Netherlands. Since he was hardly ever there, he left almost nothing in his home town, outside of the dome over the stair at the Scuola Grande di San Rocco in 1709.
