Antic Teatre
As edgy as it gets
The Antic goes back to 1879. Architect Joan Martorell, who founded it, sure wouldn't recognize the place today. The current incarnation was a squatter community until it went legitimate a few years ago.
Now it's a hyper-modern, prize-winning space for contemporary art in all its forms. They're into 'new languages of the body and of movement, new dramaturgies and new technologies'. Anything that's new and experimental, in fact. There are galleries, with temporary exhibitions, shows of all sorts. In the past they have put on festivals of electronic music and short films.
To enjoy a performance or the lovely courtyard bar, a nominal membership fee is necessary.
