Romanesque Charm

Pieve di Santa Maria Assunta

Up in the hills south of Maranello in Serra, the Pieve di Santa Maria Assunta at Rocca Santa Maria was built between the 9th and 10th centuries and donated to the Bishop of Modena by the famous Countess of Tuscany, Matilda of Canossa in 1108. It has some fine Romanesque capitals on extremely short, squat columns.
