Built in the early 19th century on the site of a monastery, this theatre was named after the Venetian playwright Carlo Goldoni, and as restored in 1997.
A plaque on the facade commemorates modern theatre producer, writer and designer Edward Gordon Craig (1872 –1966), son of actor Dame Ellen Terry who in 1913 founded a school of modern theatrical design here called the Arena Goldoni in Florence.
It's gone through many changes over the years; it’s currently used as the women’s theatre, the Teatro delle Donne with a full range of performances.
