grenadine

red syrup

diluted grenadine

Originally made with pomegranate (grenade) juice, sugar and water, the modern version of grenadine in France tends to be a mix of red fruits, vanilla, sugar and lemon.

It’s often added to cocktails for colour (as in a Tequila Sunise), but it is also one of the flavours of sirop that children in particular enjoy dissolved in a glass of cold water.
