berniques

limpets

A group of common limpets (Patella vulgata) in Pembrokeshire, Wales

Patella vulgata. Also known as patelle commune, berniques (limpets) aren’t sold commercially, but if you gather some up on the seashore and are ready to pound them until they are tender, you can eat them raw or grilled or make yourself some berniques à la poêle, cooked in butter.
