trompette des morts

horn of plenty

Trumpet of the dead, Black chanterelle, Black trumpet or horn of plenty, Craterellus cornucopioides, Family: Cantharellaceae, Location: Germany, Ringingen

Craterellus cornucopioides. Also known as the black chanterelle, black trumpet, trumpet of the dead, djondjon, the trompette des morts is a delicious mushroom, in spite of its common French name (others are trompette de la mort, craterelle and corne d’abondance).

They are found in the deciduous forests in autumn, but you need a keen eye to spot them!
