arbouse

arbutus

Arbouse, the fruit of the strawberry tree (arbre de fraise), which is why the French sometimes, confusingly, call the honey made from its flowers miel de fraise (or miel d'arbousier). It’s famous for being one of the strongest and most bitter kinds of honey, more appreciated in Sardinia than in France.

Miel de maquis or miel de Corse both include arbutus flowers in their blends.

You don’t see the fruit very often outside of Chinese restaurants, where the tinned arbouse is sometimes offered for dessert.
