clitocybe odorant

aniseed toadstool

Aniseed toadstool, Clitocybe odora, Family: Tricholomataceae, Location: Southern Germany, Baden-Württemberg, Ulm.

One of the few blue European mushrooms, the clitocybe odorant or aniseed toadstool grows in forests from late summer into autumn, near pine or deciduous trees. It tastes of aniseed and emits a strong odor of it as well.

Not to be confused with either the white version, clitocybe odorant or any other mushroom that looks greyish blue. This one has a definite scent, so much so that some people use it in desserts.

It may also be called Clitocybe anisé or Clitocybe à odeur d'anis.
