marasme des Oréades

fairy ring mushroom

Marasme des Oréades

Marasmius oreades, marasme des Oréades is a rubbery meadow mushroom, for reasons unknown named after the Oreads, the ancient Greek nymphs of the mountains. The mushrooms grow from late spring into autumn, popping up on lawns; only the caps are edible.

Also known as the faux mousseron, bouton de guêtres or mousseron d’automne.
