Farce is any kind of filling or stuffing. Farcir is the verb, a stuffed turkey is a dinde farcie; stuffed vegetables are legumes farcis.

A comedy ‘farce’ in French and later in English derived from the actors’ improvisations that filled in the gaps in medieval religious plays. These evolved into comical interludes ‘stuffed’ in between acts during the 15th and 16th centuries before becoming comedies in their own right.
