colvert

mallard

A Mallard pair at Mühlthal, Straßlach-Dingharting, Germany.

Sometimes colverts ( ‘green necks’ in French, or mallards) are raised domestically for their meat and eggs, but most are wild and a favourite prey of hunters.

Other wild ducks hunted in Frances are the chipeau (gadwall), souchet (shoveler duck), the siffleur (baldpate).
