Kiwis were introduced to France in 1904 in Nice but it wasn’t until 1965 that they were acclimatized, on the initiative of arborist Henri Pedelucq. Born in 1926 in Peyrehorade, he experimented with various exotic fruits in his home town and found the hardiest and happiest was the kiwi.
Today the Adour valley produced 25% of France’s kiwis, and they are the only ones rated IGP and Label Rouge.
