fruits déguisés

dates and prunes in disguise

Dattes fourrées en guise de fruits déguisés

A favourite sticky and very sweet Christmas treat, fruits déguisés are dates and prunes that have been pitted and filled with brightly colored marzipan. Sometimes they are rolled in crushed nuts or have a walnut kernel stuck inside as well.

Frutta martorana - traditional marzipan sweets

They are so easy to make that the children in the house can make them, although if you really want marzipan disguised as fruit you have to go to Sicily, where they are a year-round speciality.
