Quince. A word that goes back to the ancient Minoans on Crete (Kydonia was the original name of Chaniá).

A popular flavouring for loukoúmia, spoon sweets etc, kydónia are also used in some savoury dishes such as pork with quince and lamb with quince, a specialty of Macedonia.
