kalitsounia

καλιτσούνια

Pastries stuffed with myzithra--either sweet and topped with honey, or savoury, with or without herbs, that are baked or fried in olive oil. The name comes from the Italian calzone, recalling the days when Crete was occupied by the Venetians.

'little lamps'

They come in many shapes, from half moons to 'little lamps' λυχναράκια (lychnarakia) for Easter.
