Hayward kiwis have been grown since the 1970s in the fertile Pieria plain with its special microclimate that suits them perfectly. They are so delicious that these fragrant, longlasting Ακτινίδιο Πιερίας (Aktinídio Pierías), have been designated PGI since 2002.

Ακτινίδιο Σπερχειού (Aktinídio Spercheioú), grown in the Central Greek valley of the Sperchiós are designated PDO.
