Kugelhopf

A light round ('kugel') cake flavoured with aniseed that came to Friuli and the Veneto during the reign of Maria Teresa in the days of the Austrian Hungarian empire, and stayed on as a favourite Sunday treat.

Sometimes spelled Gugelhupf, or kuglof.
