While there are elegant tea rooms in Rome and Florence, Italians as a whole don't drink tea, and much prefer their delicious coffee; order it in a bar, and 99 times out of 100 you'll get a cup of warm water and tea bag.

That said, in summer they love the sugared ice tea that comes in cans or bottles, flavoured with peach, lemon or mango; a glass of lemon granita, topped up with peach ice tea, goes down a treat on a hot day.
