parrozzo

Abruzzese almond cake

Invented in Pescara in 1920 (and a favourite of Gabriele d'Annunzio), a sort of almond-flavoured panettone in the form of a church dome, made with ground peach and apricot kernels and covered in chocolate, popular around Christmas. Sometimes spelled panrozzo.
