vegetable stew

A southern Italian vegetable stew of onions, eggplants, potatoes, zucchini, tomatoes and bell peppers cooked slowly in moist heat, similar to French ratatouille or Sicilian caponata (although minus the celery and olives).

Also known as giambotta, ciambrotta or cianfotta, it is also synonymous with a 'mess'.
