absinthe

Italy was caught up in both the 1890's absinthe decadence craze and the bogus anti-absinthe hysteria that began during World War I. Mussolini outlawed it in 1931. Now the EU has made it legal again. There's nothing wrong with the stuff (outside of the fact that it tastes awful).
