bombardino

Irish coffee, Italian style

The 'bomb', packing booze and caffeine has long been a ski resort favourite, its name apparently derived from the first to try it in Livigno (Lombardy) who remarked 'It's a bomb!' although bombardino also means baritone horn. The traditional recipe is made with equal parts hot espresso, brandy and Advocaat or (Vov, when it becomes a calimero), then topped with whipped cream, but there are many variations. If you prefer rum, order a pirata; if you prefer whisky, order a scozzese.
