A sagra is a celebration or festa, sometimes dedicated to a saint or even a pagan tradition, but they nearly always involves food, and many are dedicated to a village or town's local speciality. We've included them because they can be great fun—an excuse to don traditional costumes, with music, dancing and fireworks—although they can be pretty boring, with a few tables displaying jars of preserved truffles.
We've included the ones we know about; let us know if you know of one we missed. If you can read even a bit of Italian, Sagre in Italia is one of the most thorough sources for sagre, listed by date and region.
