unripe musk melons
A kind of musk melon, harvested when they are unripe are cultivated in Puglia. Like the rounder barattiere, the long carolello is often eaten in salads instead of cucumbers.
Other names are carusella, cianciuffo, pagnottella and cocomerazzo.
