cicerchiata

carnival dessert

This favourite carnival treat roughly means 'ring of chick peas' (ceci) because that's what the little balls of deep fried dough resemble (similar to struffoli or purcedruzzi. They are often mixed with nuts and dried fruit, then piled into shapes (often a ring) and drenched with honey and eaten in slices.

Also spelled cicerchie.
