ovuli

amanita ceasarea

ovuli

The delicious and relatively rare wild mushroom that the Caesars (especially Claudius) loved best, that resembles a little orange popping out of a white egg. Often known as ovulo buono.

It is found in oak woods, especially in northern Italy and near ancient Roman roads, leading scholars to believe the Roman armies planted the spores as they marched.
