schiaffioni

big fat ovals

Big oval pasta, ridged or non ridged. Schiaffioni means 'big slaps' because of their tendency to slap the sauce around. Often served with hearty seafood or vegetables sauces, or baked. Pretty much the same as the more trendy paccheri, which means the same thing in Neapolitan dialect.
