annona

soursop (custard apple)

Chirimoya (Annona Cherimola Mill). Fruta.

Annona Cherimola or custard apple trees were introduced from Peru to the coast around Reggio Calabria in 1792, where they have thrived ever since. The taste is somewhere in between pineapples, coconut, strawberries and bananas, and they are rich in vitamin C and other health benefits.

The Edulè company in Fiumara makes them into jams and purées that you can find on line, along with bergamots, and other Calabrian fruits.
