Grown in Tiggianola on the very southern tip of the heel of Italy, these curious yellow-violet carrots. They are celebrated at Tiggianola’s Sagra della pestanaca on 18/19 January in honour of Sant’Ippazio (St Hypatius of Gangra) patron of the village and male virility...the carrots are said to resemble the saint’s penis after he was kicked in the lower abdomen by a heretical Arian during an angry dispute at the Synod of Nicea in 325 AD.
