Nicolò Roccatagliata
Bronze sculptor from Genoa
Born in Genoa, Nicolò Roccatagliata (fl. 1593–1636), was a sculptor of elegant early Baroque bronzes who mostly worked in Venice and was influenced by Alessandro Vittoria.
Most of his smaller sculptures and candelabra have been scattered far and wide. His main works remaining in Venice are the bronze figures of SS. George and Stephen in San Giorgio Maggiore and his elaborate, Counter-Reformation relief on the Allegory of the Redemption on the bronze canopy in the sacristry of San Moisè.
