loup de mer

Atlantic wolf fish

The Atlantic wolffish is a marine fish of the wolffish family Anarhichadidae, native to the North Atlantic Ocean.

Anarhichas lupus. A bottom dweller, the loup de mer (Atlantic wolf fish) lives on crustaceans that it snaps open with its sharp jaws. The flesh and taste are similar to monkfish.

Sometimes, though, a sea bass (bar) is called a loup, as in the Provençal dish loup au fenouil.
