minot

flour for pasta

ad for minot ' milk flour'

Minot is durum wheat transformed into flour in a minoterie. In the old days it was fed to baby animals as ‘milk flour’ (farine de lait) in the belief that it was as good as their mother’s milk.

The word also meant a unit of measure for dry foodstuffs (namely flour or grains).
